The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) is one of India's largest direct benefit transfer schemes, providing financial support to small and marginal farmers across the country. Launched in February 2019, the scheme has disbursed over ₹2.8 lakh crore to more than 11 crore farmer families.

PM-KISAN is a Central Government scheme that provides income support of ₹6,000 per year to all eligible farmer families. The amount is paid in three equal installments of ₹2,000 each, directly into the farmer's bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
The scheme aims to supplement the financial needs of farmers for procuring inputs like seeds, fertilizers, and equipment, as well as to meet household expenses.

Eligible Beneficiaries
- All landholding farmer families with cultivable land
- Both small and marginal farmers (no upper land limit since 2019 revision)
- Farmers from all states and Union Territories
- Sharecroppers and tenant farmers (in some states)
Who is NOT Eligible?
The following categories are excluded:
- Former and current holders of constitutional posts (President, Vice President, Ministers, MPs, MLAs)
- Former and current Central/State Government employees (except Group D/Multi-Tasking Staff)
- All retired pensioners drawing ₹10,000+ per month
- Income tax payers (those who paid income tax in the last assessment year)
- Professionals like doctors, engineers, lawyers, CAs, architects
- Institutional landholders (companies, trusts, societies)
If any member of the farmer family is an income tax payer or holds a government job (above Group D), the entire family is ineligible for PM-KISAN.
