Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) was launched in May 2016 to provide clean cooking fuel (LPG) to women from Below Poverty Line (BPL) households. The scheme aims to replace traditional cooking fuels like wood, coal, and cow dung — which cause serious health hazards — with clean LPG gas.
What is Ujjwala Yojana?#
PMUY provides a free LPG connection (including cylinder, pressure regulator, booklet, and safety hose) to eligible women from poor households. The scheme has two phases:
- Ujjwala 1.0 (2016–2019): Targeted BPL households identified through SECC 2011
- Ujjwala 2.0 (2021–present): Expanded to migrants, SC/ST, forest dwellers, and more categories
Who is Eligible?#
Ujjwala 2.0 Eligibility (Current)
- Adult women (18 years and above) from poor households
